According to a study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 1,000 children are treated in emergency rooms each year due to injuries sustained as a result of power windows. Oftentimes, parents roll down power windows to keep their car cool without realizing that their children may peek out the window and accidentally roll up the window (usually with a leaning knee) with their head still outside the car window. A new rule instated by the NHTSA requires that all passenger vehicles manufactured for sale in the United States, on or after October 1, 2008, be equipped with a safer switch.
