Section 172.325 under Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations requires bulk packaging containing an elevated temperature material (except molten Aluminum or motel Sulfur) to be marked on two opposing sides with the word HOT in black or white Gothic lettering on a contrasting background. Elevated Temperature placards are a convenient way to alert material handlers of the hazard while complying with the necessary regulations.
