Hard hats with perforation, deformity, or cracks on the brim or shell should be removed from service and replaced. If the shell or brim is exposed to heat, then chemicals or UV light may penetrate the helmet. The helmet may also be exposed to chalking, flaking, or loss of surface gloss. Furthermore, hard hats should always be replaced after suffering an impact, even if there is no visible damage.
